RMS OLYMPIC

The Old Reliable

Waterfront Publications - 1995

This book tells the story of the British liner "Olympic", the sister-ship of the "Titanic". Unlike her sister, "Olympic" enjoyed a successful 24 year career and became one of the best loved British liners of the age. The first vessel to exceed 45,000 tons, "Olympic" was no stranger to controversy, suffering several collision during her illustrious career on the North Atlantic, yet she also had her moments of glory. In 1914 she only just failed in her attempt to tow the damage British battleship HMS "Audacious" to safety after the latter ship had hit a mine, and in 1918 became the only liner to successfully ram and sink a U-boat. Her final year in service saw her ram and sink the Nantucket light vessel, but when her end came in 1935 she was still the largest British-built vessel in service. This book is still the only one in print specifically devoted to this famous ship, complete with appendices and 82 illustrations.
