Ever since he was a boy, the author had heard about a mysterious relative who was a passenger on Titanic. Anytime the subject of the Titanic disaster came up, his father would mention an Uncle Paddy who was aboard the doomed liner and somehow survived. His name was Patrick O'Keefe and he was from Waterford, Ireland, but that's all anybody in the family knew about him. When James Cameron's blockbuster movie stirred up phenomenal interest in the subject of Titanic, the author embarked on a research project that yielded some unexpected results. The author found long-lost relatives in America and Ireland, discovered his own Irish roots, and finally learned the Pat O'Keefe story. It turns out that great uncle Pat was one of the men who made it to Collapsible B, the famous overturned lifeboat that became the last refuge from death in the icy North Atlantic.
