In 1980 Expedition Leader Mike Harris organized a group of marine scientists and oceanographers from Lamont Doherty Geological Observatory in Palisades, New York and Scripps Institute of Oceanography in LaJolla, California and led them on the first-ever expedition to search for the Titanic in the North Atlantic.
They had to battle hurricane force winds and huge waves to obtain the first sonar picture of the Titanic and its debris field on the bottom at a depth of 12,500 feet.
Mike produced "Search for the Titanic" which features legendary Hollywood actor Orson Welles as his on-camera host and narrator.
The film shows in graphic detail how the expedition team had to overcome many obstacles searching through the Titanic target area to help prove where the Titanic was located and where it was not.
